My experiances involve php coding, i have a fair understanding of C, and i also do installerscripts. That's it really." Nii Hao All! I've switched back from digest mode: i've never had a mailing list in digest mode and i just discovered to hate it :D Here're some excerpts from the digests: 1. i second the choice of a wiki, it's a great system! 2. if you think a forum+ml is too much, we could go with the list and use the forum justo for public announcements or something like weekly status updates. 3. please, PLEASE!, don't call it AmigaOffice or something alike, don't us do the same error of Amizilla: here we have a great brand we can use for free and it's a big selling point: let's use it! (btw, OpenOffice.org is the real name, not OpenOffice :)) 4. SVN vs. CVS: although i'm one of the fans of SVN i believe that if you guys feel more comfortable with CVS and it will let us to start rapidly, then you should use it. Project Management

Hi all, I'll probably regret this, but I'll put myself forward to HELP with the project management: First of all I think this is way to big a project for 1 person to manage it (especially as it will be done on a voluntary basis) and so if possible the project should be broken down ito several tasks (or sub-projects) and each sub-project has its own manager, with possibly one co-ordinator at the top level. About me: I am currently a Systems Manager at The Open University, this involves (amongst other things) managing IT projects (never done a coding project though). I'm also one of the site developers at AW.net, I have (in my university years ;-) ) done some C, but its not up to much currently. The project: We will need to: Have a discussion and work out all of the tasks that need completing, this will need to be broken down into phases (ie time ordered). We will need a project schedule putting together (PM's job), tasks will need allocating (again PM's job). This should preferably be on line and graphical, as an Open project it'll also allow us to point people at it so they can get an instant update. Once tasks are allocated, its the PM's job to hastle, bully and otherwise ensure they get done on time, or adjust the schedule if there is going to be unavoidable slippage. Regards, Mark

Where do we go from here?

Hello, In a recent post Tonyw made a suggestion for setting up commité for managing this project, and i like the idea, but i would prepose some alternations to his suggestion. His idea was to have 3 persons in charge, a linux head, an AOS head & someone to be in charge of rescource management. I think you should have a 4th person on a higher level, to whom the 3 senior developers can report & who makes the calls based on the suggestions from all 3 senior devs. The head honcho should, just as the others, be elected by the whole team. Introductions (and Neon for SVN)

While we are all introducing ourselves: I am a programmer. I mostly mostly do hard core C for soft realtime systems and have a fair understanding of network code, OpenGL, threading, processor architecture. I have not done anything Amiga specific in quite a while (and sadly lack an A1) but is quite willing to help as time permits (a little low on that sometimes). Also, about Neon for SVN. Do we really need this initially? I use SVN on my SPARC and the standalone svnserver works well. For security reasons, we should probably look into other protocols (or tunnel svn over ssh) - but for an initial port we could perhaps build a minimal SVN server/client set with limited protocol support. -Peter, aka.
