Basically there are three uses of fork() which can be worked around in a reasonable way. The first is the (in)famous fork()+exec() example where the only real use of fork is to start a new process. The second is when fork() is used to detach from a shell (this can just be removed without any serious loss). The third is when fork() is used for a worker function and the parent process has little or no state which is relevant for the child. This could e.g. be in a simple webserver. In almost all other cases, major surgery will be needed and putting a program under the knife to remove a fork() is more than a spoonfull of work. -Peter aka. Introductions (and Neon for SVN)

While we are all introducing ourselves: I am a programmer. I mostly mostly do hard core C for soft realtime systems and have a fair understanding of network code, OpenGL, threading, processor architecture. I have not done anything Amiga specific in quite a while (and sadly lack an A1) but is quite willing to help as time permits (a little low on that sometimes). Also, about Neon for SVN. Do we really need this initially? I use SVN on my SPARC and the standalone svnserver works well. For security reasons, we should probably look into other protocols (or tunnel svn over ssh) - but for an initial port we could perhaps build a minimal SVN server/client set with limited protocol support. -Peter, aka. Python 2.4

Hi! I just wanted to remark that with respect to Python which is required for the build process of OOo, I have tried updating the old quick-and-dirty port to Python 2.4 yesterday, and the result is yet another quick-and-dirty port of Python 2.4 for AmigaOS 4.
