Could you maybe add the introductions that people have posted about themselves on the Poll page so it's a bit easier to make an informed decision? It's hard to keep up with who is who especially as we're dealing with real names and nicks at the same time.

The vote is for the head honcho, or leader (or dictator, tiran, manager, whatever you want to call it) this person will be in charge of forming a team & get the action going.
this is what i've gathered sofar:
Available persons for head honcho role:
Amon_Re
"I'm not experianced in managing large projects, but i have the determination to get this thing rolling.
My experiances involve php coding, i have a fair understanding of C, and i also do installerscripts.
That's it really."
Rincewynd: "Not sure how I can help at this point, but here's an overview of my work-experience: - 5 years of 4GL programming. (No C/C++ alas, so I can't be helping programming); - 7 years of information systems design; - about the same (7 years) of database design (relational databases); - 2 years IT-consultancy; - 1.5 years (not fulltime) of managing small programming projects; - Too many years of writing development documentation (Functional Design, Technical Design, End-user docs); - I speak Dutch, English, French and German.
I've taken a closer look at my schedule, and I'd like to make myself available for the following: - 'replacement' manager. At the moment I don't have the time to take part of the management of this project on me, but this'll change in a few months. So if one of the to be appointed managers has to leave in the future I'll prolly be available. I do have management experience, tho not for a project this big. - PR/Community management. The user community will want to hear about the projects' progress. If we decide to provide periodical status-updates to said community, I'm willing to put these together. There will likely also be a myriad of other questions from the user community that will need to be addressed."
TonyW: "I have been an electronics engineer and low-level programmer for 35 years. Now retired (and 60 yrs) I am enjoying myself playing with my A1. I am an OS4 betatester and I am currently translating the old 68k assembler console.device into ANSI C code.
I am most experienced with plain C, written for embedded devices. For instance, I have written the EFI software for my campervan, and designed and built all the hardware. I have not written much graphics code or code using OS3/4 libraries other than the basic CLI libs. At my last job I wrote embedded SW switching audio and data communications signals, and designed the hardware to go with it.
Some years ago I updated the OS3.9 68k port of Kaffe and made the interpreter and JIT engines wok properly. Since then the code base has changed and I will go back to it again when I can build it on OS4. Hopefully some of the new tools will make that possible soon.
I expect to be fully occupied with console.device for the next few months. Possibly around the end of March I will be able to help with coding for OpenOffice.
I am not a Linux guru, but I can find my way slowly.
Management: although I have had some management experience, I am not comfortable in such a position, and prefer to be a "back room engineer". I could assist with one of the teams later on.
Availability: as I said, I won't be able to do much for OO.A for a couple of months. I will be away on holidays for all of February and July."
Mark: "I'll probably regret this, but I'll put myself forward to HELP with the project management:
First of all I think this is way to big a project for 1 person to manage it (especially as it will be done on a voluntary basis) and so if possible the project should be broken down ito several tasks (or sub-projects) and each sub-project has its own manager, with possibly one co-ordinator at the top level.
About me:
I am currently a Systems Manager at The Open University, this involves (amongst other things) managing IT projects (never done a coding project though). I'm also one of the site developers at AW.net, I have (in my university years ;-) ) done some C, but its not up to much currently."
Argo: No info available
Regards
I guess I should specify the real reason why I didn't make a move forward towards head honchoe (however you spell it). Main reason is I believe the head honchoe should either have an OS4 machine and/or access to an OS4 machine. I have neither of those, although I plan on having an AmigaOne, it's not planned for the very near future. All I have is an emulator (winuae) and OS 3.1 (apparently, the emulator I use can handle up to 3.9 but I don't have those images).
So I don't think that makes me a leading authority on Amiga technology ;-). Also the last time I coded anything in Amiga was about 12 years ago. Wasn't a bad project, but wasn't in C++....Speaking of, what C++ compiler is to be used for this project? is the compiler available for OS 3.1 too?

The Project Lead doesn't have to be a programmer. They do have to be a facilitator. Can you organize and prioritize tasks? Are you able to effectivly deligate authority? Yes, they have to have a certian amount of knowledge. You know what OpenOffice.org (the software) is, right? If not, Grab one of the ports and try it out. You don't have an A1 and OS4, but you know what it is, right? You must have read articles on it and or seen some post about it. Maybe tried it at a show. Some management knowledge would be good too. Know what a Gant Chart is? Not to mention managaing resources and listening to others.
I've followed this since it was first mentioned on AmigaWorld.net. At first I thought it was just some fanciful community dreaming. It's been seen before, posts of "oo, oo, this should be ported" or "Wouldn't it be great if the Amiga had this. The source what just released". It looked to be dying down, then EntilZha created a poll about interest in starting a port project. Now here we are. I'm here as I feel this is one of the more important projects for the Amiga. It's right up there with Amiga OS 4.0. OpenOffice.org is something that is very much needed on the platform. Not for what it is but for what the project can do for the community. I see it as part of a revitilization effort. I'm not here just because it's important and I want to be a part of that. If this gets completed, and I'll try hell or high water to see that it is no matter my capacity in the project, it will not only bring a known mainstream office suite to the platform but prove that such projects are not impossible. I see people look at the AmiZilla project and scoff or laugh. They think it's impossible or too hard to do properly. I hope that this project can encourage other projects, porting or homegrown. I just think that people will just give up if this project and the Amizilla project fail to bare fruit. Here I was just going to lurk as usual, maybe pipe in here or there from time to time. Not really sure where I could help out. I only started post because I was getting pissed that people were talking about "what do we call it?" and logos. The the programmers stopped posting about weither they should use CVS or try porting SVN. The list got dominated by carriage before the horse topics. We were getting nowhere fast. Now, here I am on a poll for Project Lead. Funny how things happen. This is why I normally keep my big mouth shut.
Well I'm not sure I have the time for the head honchoe...however, for sub management levels as in breaking down workloads into conceivable realisations, that I can do no problem. so When the fearless leader is appointed, I can definitaly start breaking down part of OO (i'm thinking the spreadsheet part since I've used spreadsheets since Visicalc 1.0 on a commodore PET computer ;-). I think I can work em in and out ;-). WordProcessor too...but First I'd breakdown the Spreadsheet. In fact, I already voted and all so until that's in, I'm gonna start this breaking down and just email it to whoever it should be going to.
And yes, I know what a Gantt Chart is, a wonderful tool that easily allow to prolong deadline limits to project managers...hehehehe. (sorry I couldn't resist ;-). Been there, done that ;-). But as all the posts recently state, a Gantt chart is made to give a visual representation of an organized process, there's other tools for Chaos ;-). I know what the AmigaOne is of course ;-), I dream of owning one every night ;-) (hmm maybe I should add a donate to Steph's dream paypal button somewhere in this email ;-).
And I've been programming since 1975 (I was 7 when I read my first computer books) in any language you can try to name (even COBOL on Perforated cards no less, that's saying it all ;-). I've had mostly commodore computers (a pet, super pet, C-64, C-128, Vic 20, Amiga 500, 2000 and 2500) then I went the PC direction, I still have my good old faithful Mac Classic (you know the 7" screen thingy) and Macintosh LC III, 29 years personal programming experience and 13 professional.
I just need to brush up on OS 3.X and 4 technicalities and libraries. And my Amiga specific C++ knowledge too (as in what's in what header and what libs are available and hardware access through the OS (printers and such) ).
I'm pretty good at documentation too as in sitting down with a client that brings a couple weird drawings on the corner of a paper and deciphering what he really wants, analysis documents and bringing all this to it's realization into an application that usually answers exactly what he wanted to tell me with the couple drawings and notes :-).

I don't think that rules you out. The head honcho isn't going to be developing or beta testing, he's going to be organising. He's not going to HAVE any time to develop or beta test ;-)
