It should be tossed into head, the other one was a result of me lacking patience (it takes awhile before anything shows up in the cvs)

Ok, I checked it in now (added a makefile as well).
It's not tested though, since I couldn't find a portable demo... however, the very same code builds in agg without a problem, so I suspect that it's OK.
