SANE/Scanning

Hi, I have a suggestion for consideration regarding scanning/sane etc. The current OpenOffice includeds a TWAIN header file (obviously for windows/Mac that have twain scanners), would it make more sense for us to add an interface to betascan/scanfx/scanquix and then port over betscan (and upgrade to use the libusb port that is being worked on) that way we get a gui included, both betascan and scanfx use sane drivers so those would need recompiiling as well (and to include the USB functionality). This may also help promote sale sof things like scanfx which includes extra finctionality? Comments? Mark

Status update (NAS).

To appease Christophe (and everyone else), here is a quick update. Work on NAS has been stalled for the last couple of days due to (other) work and feeble attempts at having a life, but has now resumed. I am currently alternating on one hand implementing missing functions in the c-library and on the other hand thinking about how to handle the dependencies on X11. In other words. Work moves forward, albeit slowly. -Peter aka. Archprogrammer Reality is for people who cannot face ScienceFiction. Only lefthanded people are in their right minds.

This is the place to discuss any issues with the tasks you are undertaking, to ask for help in realtime and to provide updates to the rest of the team. Perl Dependancy

There was a message posted on the IBrowse mailing list that holds some information that I think is usefull to this project: message here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ibrowse/message/12294 Basically saying that Stefan and Andrija have been working on AmiSSL3 for 68k and OS4 but that it required perl which in turn requires ixemul, and that they have had to "sort it out" for OS4, whether this means that perl has been ported (using ixemul) for OS4 or straight to OS4 I dont know, but it does seem likely that Perl is available (or will be shortly) for OS4, and perl is a requirement for OpenOffice.org. It would be good if we can get confirmation of this (Rogue/Entilzha)? Thanks Mark

NAS Update

Here is a quick update. I will put this on the project status pages when they are up again. Preliminary evaluation of the portability of NAS, the Network Audio System is now complete. The following items have been identified: * Configuration is dependant on X11. Manual configuration is possible but will likely take some time. * Depends in part on X11 but this seems to be fairly isolated. My *guess* is that this can be worked around with a small wrapper. * Platform specific code and non ISO-C constructs are common and may require some extra work. Some functionality might be unavailable without too much work but the same seems to be true for win32 and OOo works there so this is likely not a problem. * Actual audio code is relatively well isolated and when the api is understood, it would likely be easy to map to AHI. (NB: I do _not_ know how AHI works, so this is partly a guess) Overall portability: 6 of 10. Suggested skills for porting: Unix, Sockets, C, AHI. Suggested first steps: Untangle build system and configure manually. As for the testing of existing ports it goes forward but will take a bit of time as I am attempting to test more than minimum basic functionality. (And my day-job is taking quite a bit of time at the moment) And finally, a question for Thomas or/and Hans-Jörg (I said I would take you up on the offer to answer questions about V50+ programming :) 1) Is it legal to call dos.library/FSync() on a filehandle obtained from dos.library/Open()? 2) Is intuition.library/AllocScreenBuffer() broken with regard to the SB_COPY_BITMAP flag? 3) How much should I trust the autodocs? Making compiler & tools available

Hi all I've been thinking of making a whole dev kit for classic available for use by the project (gcc 3.4, 3.9 NDK & whatnot) but i lack storage on kefren.be to store this. DaveyD, how much storage do we have available on dev.amigaopenoffice.org? Also, does anyone have requests for avaiable tools? csh update

Just to let you know. OS4 native csh runs. Well, sort of. I didn't expect the executeable to run because I have still things to do. But nonetheless, I just started it...and, voila, it really runs. It crashes after a command execution (simply stops after a GrimReaper/Ignore), but the command executed properly ;) To be honest, I would have expected a fatal crash, but it didn't. Hi guys, I'm trying to upload an lha file to the project page (aspell for OS4 for testing). It was sent as an attachment to the aspell project on dev.aoo but it never appeared! Is there something I'm doing wrong? Cheers, Paul Heams.

General progress

I thought it might be time for a little progress report again so you all have something to read. :-) After performing preliminary investigations of NAS and its source-structure the prospects of porting it look relatively good. The code itself seems modular enough that there will be no undue problem with re-directing it to AHI. Preliminary portability rating: 5/10 (where 1=almost unportable and 10=trivial to port) Investigations will continue. As for the quality of existing ports, I have not opted to begin by reading up on Amiga development and attempting to get up to speed with v50+ before writing test programs to ascertain the usefulness of the existing ports. Porting Question

Hello As many of you know I'm porting libusb to os4. The source code uses serverl functions like snprintf() and strerror(). I wantede to use clib2 but thats ad no-no from library code, then I turn to newlib but dident have the inclide files :( So here I'm what to do ? The only thing I can think of is to rip the source code from clib2 an include it in my lib but that not the best sulution IMHO. Any ideas? Kind regards Rene W. Olsen

Hello, The following decisions & plans were made: Disisions: o CSH/TCSH development postponed untill we actually need it. o Porting of dependencies that have uses outside of the OOo project to gain momentum. Tasks: o AC will investigate the feasability of writing a wrapper for libusb o SieGel will investigate/port autoconf & automake o Bean will investigate/port aspell o tonyw will investigate/port BerkleyDB o Archprogrammer will investigate the currently available ports for usuability o Archprogramer will investigate the work required to port NAS. I've set up the needed tasks & projects on http://dev.amigaopenoffice.org, and assigned them to the proper people, however, that doesn't mean anyone else can't help out ;) Also, everyone with access to dev.amigaopenoffice.org has to fill in the proper details in their user account.
